Olivia Eckard

PROJECT DESIGNER

While studying Architectural Engineering at Penn State, Olivia found lighting as an expressive way to enhance her architectural drive on creativity. Passionate about the visual experience during the concept phase of a project, Olivia strives to develop her skills in rendering, modeling and hands on opportunities. Outside of the office, she enjoys anything related to the great outdoors, playing Call of Duty – Zombies, and re-watching Gilmore Girls.

1. When did you know lighting design was for you?

During my time at school, I took lighting design classes and I discovered how much lighting design means for architecture. After that, I was hooked.

2. What are three words you’d use to describe Lam Partners?

Passionate, Impactful, Dynamic

3. What would you be doing for a career if you weren’t in lighting design?

A pastry chef or farmer.

4. Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

Mt Vesuvius, Italy. It was my first time traveling abroad, I got to see a lot of Southern Italy (all of it amazingly gorgeous) but hiking Mt Vesuvius and drinking lemoncello at the top is limitless in words.

I enjoy all things realted to craftsmanship or DIY building. My dream is to build my own house with my own hands.

We are so excited to welcome Eda Muco to our firm as Project Designer. Eda is passionate about lighting and architecture, and her professional experience as an interior/lighting designer has given her many opportunities to contribute to the industry. She has a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Wentworth Institute of Technology. XS House Featured in Architectural Record

January 14, 2020 / no comments

“But now the sliver of land at the edge of the Center City district has been transformed by local architecture firm ISA into seven sleek and livable apartments. The oddly shaped lot is a leftover from the construction of Interstate 676, a below-grade multilane highway dating from the late 1950s that sliced through Philadelphia’s dense urban fabric.” Architectural Record features XS House, our lighting project with architecture firm ISA, in the January 2020 issue.

XS House, located in Philadelphia’s Chinatown neighborhood, slots seven apartments into an 11-food-wide by 93-foot long site, strategically occupying expanded bays, mezzanines, and bi-level upper units for a total of  5,000 square feet. Lighting in the apartments needed to be strategically placed as to not take up the already limited space while also complementing the urban architecture.

Lam Labs at the Harvard Graduate School of Design

November 11, 2019 / no comments

Lam Labs, our research and development arm of Lam Partners, is continuing to make headway into increasing the conversation of ideas beyond the scope of design projects.

Recently, Lam Labs director Dan Weissman gave a series of guest lectures at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design on how architectural lighting can impact environmental systems and the study of human needs, comfort, performance, and sense of well-being in relation to the physical environments, both natural and man-made, that occur in and around buildings. This ongoing discussion about which environmental factors may be wisely utilized, controlled, and modified as an integral part of the architectural design, including lighting, is something that continues to evolve.

Lam Labs was founded on the idea that increasing research and discussion about lighting technologies, human perception of light, environmental variables, and energy use/efficiency can and will help to change the built environment.  Make sure to check out more about Lam Labs and our ongoing initiatives in research and design here.
