Lam Wins 2025 Boston Section IES Awards

We were thrilled to celebrate with the lighting design community at the IES Boston Awards Gala, where several of our projects took home honors across categories—from immersive experiences to academic institutions and cutting-edge workspaces.

The Orb

Section Award of Merit, Experiential Lighting

The Orb is a 10-meter-tall sculptural pavilion on a Mountain View technology campus, designed by a world-renowned artist. Crafted from ultra-thin aluminum with intricate folds and perforations, it integrates light and form to create a dynamic landmark. Daylight and programmable LED lighting enhance its structural and visual complexity.

View Boston

Section Award of Merit, Outdoor Lighting

A sensitive redesign of Boston’s iconic Prudential Tower enhances its legacy as a city landmark. Thoughtful lighting preserves its architectural integrity while offering reflection-free views, immersive interiors, and a dynamic observation deck. Programmable lighting at the crown continues its tradition of communicating with the city through celebratory, supportive, and expressive displays.

Williams College Davis Center

Section Award, Interior Lighting

The Davis Center’s lighting design supports its mission of inclusion, sustainability, and community. Red List-free fixtures and low-reflectivity materials minimize environmental impact, while preserving night sky views. Thoughtfully layered lighting—indoors and out—enhances architecture, enriches experience, and reflects cultural metaphors, fostering a sense of belonging and environmental responsibility.

Bristol Myers Squibb

Section Award, Interior Lighting

Bristol Myers Squibb’s 480,000-square-foot R&D facility in Cambridge Crossing features vibrant, color-changing lighting that reinforces themes of connection and energy. A DMX-controlled system unifies dynamic ceilings, façade lighting, and rooftop signage. Custom colors distinguish each floor, while labs meet strict lighting standards with an LPD 27% below code.

Frederick Gunn School Tisch Center for Innovation & Active Citizenship

Section Award, Interior Lighting

The Frederick Gunn School’s new Center for Innovation and Active Citizenship features sustainable, carefully composed lighting that enhances comfort, efficiency, and adaptability. With tailored lumen packages, dark-sky compliant fixtures, and scene-based controls, the design supports learning while reducing lighting power density by 23%—creating a high-performance, visually balanced academic environment.

Additionally, four projects received Honorable Mentions in several categories, including:

View Boston – Interior Lighting
The Orb – Outdoor Lighting
Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management – Interior Lighting
